The Merchant of Venice is perhaps Shakespeare’s most controversial play, largely because of the character of Shylock.
In this modern adaptation the action was transported to contemporary Las Vegas because of the shared moniker of the ‘City of Sin’. This post-recession world we live in now gave the story a very different feeling. Instead the focus was on the corrupt city which allowed Shylock’s demise to happen, and let others benefit from it.
A classic play with stylish modern direction.
